How is toughened glass made?
In order to make toughened glass panels, the glass undergoes a thermal process that makes it very durable and suitable for a wide range of uses.
The glass is rapidly heated and then quickly cooled, compressing the surface and creating compensating central tension. This results in tempered glass which has several benefits over regular glass panels:
- It is far more durable and resistant to scratches and scuffs
- It’s much harder to break, increasing the security benefits of using toughened glass
The processes involved in creating toughened glass mean it cannot be cut or modified after it has undergone this strengthening.
