Make it a focal point
Antique mirrors are brilliant for look, style and they can be a real conversation starter! With all this in mind, it’s a good idea to make your mirror a focal point! Think about a place in your home that is well lit and would benefit from having a mirror. This could be a prominent wall in your living room, above a fireplace or reflecting some artwork.
Add some greenery
One way to enhance the look of an antique mirror is to add some greenery. You could place a vase of fresh flowers or a potted plant in front of the mirror. This will not only add a pop of colour and texture to your décor, but it can also create a natural contrast against the mirror’s reflective surface.
Create a gallery wall!
Another way to style an antique glass mirror is to create a gallery wall around it! You can hang multiple antique mirrors, artwork or photographs around the mirror to create a wonderful display. Make sure the other frames you use complement the style of the antique glass.
Maximise your mirror!
Use the mirror reflection to your advantage! You could position the mirror opposite a window to maximise the amount of natural light in the room. Alternatively, place a lamp or chandelier in front of the mirror to create a stunning visual effect.
Enhance with lighting
You may have antique mirrors around your home that aren’t getting the appreciation that they deserve! Dust them off and add some lighting to the room to enhance their look. Create a flattering light by adding decorative wall lights either side of the mirror. Or why not try adding a bit of character by accessorising the mirror with vintage style lights.
Mix it up with colour
The wall colour that you hang your antique mirror on can make all the difference to the look. Vintage mirrors with gold frames can make a statement piece when placed on a dark feature wall. The most popular choice of colour for this is black or dark green. Alternatively, using a pop of colour on your walls such as pastel colours, can really compliment an antique mirror. Throw a lush green plant into the mix for optimum style. For a modern look, hang your mirror onto a crisp white wall, add a spotlight for an extra touch.
Get creative!
Don’t be afraid, experiment with different styles! Pair your antique mirror with modern furniture for a contemporary look. Or try using it amongst other vintage pieces in your decor. Mix it up by walking around with your antique mirror, positioning it at different heights around your home.
