Founded in 1966, Osborn Glass & Windows began as a small high street glass shop in Croydon, South London. David Osborn, the original owner, dedicated himself to cutting single panes of glass for the local community. Nearly 60 years later, the company has grown from its humble beginnings into a well established, family run business, renowned for providing top quality glazing solutions to both retail and trade customers.
Over the years, Osborn Glass & Windows has witnessed many glazing trends, including the rise of glass louvres in the 1970s. Homeowners frequently replaced the sliding sash elements of box sash windows with a large glass pane and small louvred fins in the top 400mm section. This design created a picture window while maintaining ventilation. Demand was so high that we could barely keep up—customers lined up down the street to get their hands on these stylish and functional windows!
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Osborn secured a contract with Whitbread, the owner of the UK’s largest nightclub chain. With venues in every major city, demand for bevelled and coloured mirrors surged, becoming a staple of nightclub décor. To reflect our evolving expertise, we rebranded as Osborn Glass & Mirror Company, ensuring we remained at the forefront of industry trends.
With the decline of nightclubs after the ’80s and ’90s, Osborn Glass & Windows once again adapted to industry shifts. As one of the few companies in London with in house glass processing machinery—including bevelling, polishing, drilling, and sandblasting—we became a go-to resource for local glaziers. At the same time, we expanded our reach, collaborating with architects, shopfitters, and interior designers to supply high quality glass solutions for hotels, restaurants, pubs, and gyms.
In 2009, Osborn Glass expanded its services to include windows and doors, officially becoming Osborn Glass & Windows Ltd. With the rise of the internet, we recognised the importance of a strong online presence. To better connect with our customers, we launched domain names reflecting both our service areas and product offerings. Today, our websites are branded as southlondonglass and southlondonwindows, making it easier than ever for customers to find us.
At Osborn Glass & Windows, we assist both trade and retail clients, as well as commercial partners, in overcoming challenges and bringing their visions to life—no matter how complex. Our expert team is dedicated to finding the best solutions for every project.
Due to the nature of our work, many of our projects are completed under strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). While we can’t always showcase our work, we’re proud to have contributed to prestigious locations such as Shard, Harrods, Corinthia Hotel, F1 Arcade, David Lloyds gyms,Pure gym, and renowned restaurants like Gaucho’s.
At Osborn, we’re a close knit team led by Steve and Danny—often regarded as industry gurus. Many of our staff have been with us for years, bringing experience and dedication that set us apart.
Tony, our shop manager, recently celebrated 15 years with us. James and Mark, our skilled glass processors, have been part of Osborn Glass since leaving school and are now in their 30s. Jo, our administrator, has been with us for eight years, while our talented Art specialist has been shaping Osborn’s creative side for over 30 years.
Our extended team—Nick, Colin, Tim, Jason, Leon, Elton, and Jack—have all played vital roles in our success. We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a loyal and talented group, and it’s this collective expertise that makes Osborn Glass & Windows truly stand out.
At Osborn Glass, we believe in supporting our local community. For over a decade, we proudly sponsored the Caterham Pumas, a local football team in Caterham.
Now, we’re focusing our efforts on charity work, partnering with Kelly’s Heroes, a cause close to our hearts. In collaboration with Glazerite UK, one of our leading suppliers, we’re committed to supporting this incredible charity through various events each year, and we look forward to continuing this for many years to come.
