What is bevelled glass?
Bevelled glass is a decorative glass element used in doors and windows. You can tell a glass is bevelled by looking at the edges; the glass edges are cut at an angle to give a transparent and shiny look.
Because of the way the glass is angled, the edges act as a prism that refracts light and creates beautiful rainbow-coloured patterns. If you’re looking to add some sparkle to your home, installing bevelled glass in your doors and windows is the way to go.
How is bevelled glass made?
Making bevelled glass can be a time-consuming process but the results are worth it.
The first step to making bevelled glass is to cut each glass piece to a preferred shape. Then, you’d need to ground each piece along its entire edge. After, the edges need to be smoothed using a stone wheel with a fine-grained slurry. The next step is to polish the glass against a spinning hardwood wheel and fine pumice. Finally, the glass undertakes a final polishing on felt-covered wheels with water and fine pumice.
