We supply toughened and toughend-laminated glass to your requirements. 4 to 19mm thickness.
Toughened glass is processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. When broken toughened glass crumbles into small granular chunks of similar size and shape instead of splintering into random, jagged shards. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury. The glass has to be cut to size, and then processed to toughen it. Once toughened, it can not be re-cut or processed in any way
We stock and supply cut to size laminated safety glass in 4.4, 6.4, 8.8 and 10.8mm thicknesses. Greater thicknesses to order. Laminated glass is also available in a range of colours. In addition to clear, we stock 'white diffuser' laminated glass in 6.4mm. Typically 10.8mm laminated glass is used in shop fronts. Laminated glass is frequently used in secondary glazing.
Our fire rated glass is a special variety of laminated glass, but the regular material on this page must not be used in fire rated installations.
Laminated glass is usually 2 layers of regular glass (although toughened glass may be used) with a plastic layer fused between. Laminated glass holds together when broken as the plastic interlayer (typically of polyvinyl butyral (PVB)) holds the shards together.
We laminate various materials - fabrics, metal mesh, dried plants, etc between glass sheets for special decorative effects. Please contact us with your enquiries - Telephone 020 8653 2200
